Privacy Policy

Tracker is a time tracker that reads what is on your screen, so a privacy policy for it is only worth reading if it is specific. This one names every service involved and what each of them actually sees.

There are two separate things to cover: the Tracker app, which runs on your Mac, and this website, which does not.

The Tracker app

Tracker runs entirely on your Mac. There is no account to create and no server for it to send anything to.

While it is running, Tracker samples the title of your front window and, for browsers, the URL of the active tab, then files that time under one of the clients you configured. All of it — window titles, URLs and time entries — is written to a SQLite database file on your own disk. None of it is uploaded to us or to anyone else.

Exports are plain files. When you export billable hours for an invoice, Tracker writes a CSV to a location you choose. It is yours, and you decide who sees it.

Because the whole history is a single file on your Mac, deleting that file deletes everything. There is no copy on a server for you to request and none for us to hand over, to a client, an employer or anyone else.

We never receive your tracking data.

This website

usetracker.app is a static marketing site. It has no login, no user database and no server-side code of ours. What it does have is a host, an analytics script and an email form, and those are the three places your data can go.

Cloudflare — hosting

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare receives the requests your browser makes and processes the standard connection data that comes with them — your IP address, the page requested, your browser user agent and a timestamp — in order to deliver the page and protect the site from abuse. Umami — analytics

We use Umami Cloud to count visits. Umami sets no cookies, and its documentation states that it collects no personally identifiable information and never tracks visitors across websites. What it records is page views, referrer URLs, browser, operating system, device type and a country of origin.

One event is recorded on top of that: an anonymous count when the early-access button is pressed. It records that the button was pressed, not who pressed it and not what was typed in the field.

Buttondown — the waitlist

If you enter your email address in the early-access form, that address is submitted to Buttondown, the service that stores the list and sends the email. We use it for one thing: telling you when Tracker ships.

Buttondown stores your email address and the usual delivery data that comes with sending email. Every message includes an unsubscribe link, and using it removes you from the list immediately. See theButtondown privacy policy.

We do not sell the list, rent it, or use it for anything other than Tracker announcements.

Cookies

We set no cookies of our own, and the analytics are cookieless, which is why there is no consent banner on this site — there is nothing to consent to. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary cookies as part of delivering and protecting the site; its policy, linked above, covers those.

Your rights and choices

There is not much data here to exercise rights over, but here is where each piece lives:

• Data in the app. It is on your Mac. Open it, copy it, export it or delete it. No request to us is needed, and none is possible.
• Your email address. Use the unsubscribe link in any email and it is removed. You can also write to us to ask what is stored or to have it deleted.
• Analytics. Nothing recorded identifies you, so there is no record for us to look up, correct or delete on request.

If you are in the EU or UK, the GDPR rights you have — access, correction, deletion, objection, portability — apply to the only personal data we hold, which is your email address if you joined the list. The lawful basis for holding it is your consent, given by submitting the form, and withdrawn by unsubscribing. If you are in California, the same applies: we do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of beyond that unsubscribe link.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. A material change to how the waitlist is used will also be announced in an email to that list, so you can leave it before the change takes effect.
